Florida Tarpon Fishing

If you’re looking for a great saltwater fishing adventure in Florida, consider a Florida Tarpon fishing trip. The Florida coastline offers some of the very best Tarpon fishing in the world, with Tarpon reaching a length of eight feet or more and weighing over one hundred pounds.

Talk about an exciting catch! Fishing for Tarpon in Florida packs a punch and a fight when they nail your hook. Without a doubt, fishing for Tarpon in Florida is fun. And surprisingly, Florida Tarpon are quite easy to catch. That’s right! Hooking a Florida Tarpon is not where the challenge lies. Bringing them to the boat is where the real battle begins. Once hooked, Tarpon violently leap high in the air, thrashing their huge royal silvery body in an attempt to dislodge the hook and free themselves back to the brackish depths of the Florida Coastal waters. The winner of this battle is almost always the Tarpon, which is why so many sport fisherman are lured by the challenge of Florida Tarpon fishing.

If you travel to the southern coast of Florida, you will find yourself right smack dab in the middle of giant Florida Tarpon fishing waters, where Florida Tarpon can weigh over 150 pounds. The best time for Tarpon fishing there is May, as they prepare to navigate toward the Gulf for spawning season.

Florida Tarpon fishing has the honor of boasting world record Tarpon catches, from Tampa Bay all they way South to the Florida Keys.

It doesn’t matter where you fish the Florida coast, Florida will please you with a wonderful Florida Tarpon fishing adventure which you will certainly never forget, and for which you’ll always yearn to return.

Oregon Fishing Report

Oregon
fishing report

Oregon fishing report for Willamette Valley/Metro- The
traditional numbers of Smelt on the Columbia this time of year is unusually
low so far.   Columbia sturgeon have been exiting the mainstream for
better sources of winter food in other Oregon estuaries.  Willamette
water level, water flow and water temperature has dropped this week.
Sturgeon fishing has been better.  We look forward to higher numbers of
steelhead over the coming weeks.

Oregon fishing report for the Clackamas steelheads is improving.  For
best luck, fish above Riverside Park on the Clackamas and  Eagle Creek.

Oregon fishing report for the Sandy is fair.  As the water clears,
fishing will also improve throughout January and February as more steelhead
enter.

Oregon fishing report for Metro:  Anglers are enjoying great action with
steelheads as water and air temps equalize.  Fishing is best after 9:00
am.

Oregon fishing report for the Northwest  coast:  The small streams
are too low right now which means less action.  As water clarity
improves,  larger river fishing will improve also.   Anglers
are enjoying good action on the Wilson because it has cleared.  Fishing
pressure there is currently low.

Oregon fishing report for the Trask River;  the river has been blocked by
a log jam at the railroad bridge.

Coastal rivers Oregon fishing report;  Bright Chinook fishing is good.
We are in anticipation of early season steelhead spawn.

Oregon fishing report for Sturgeon  in Tillamook Bay  is good
sturgeon.  Sand shrimp fished in the deeper slots in the middle and west
channel should produce the best results. Crabbing remains poor.

Ocean surf Oregon fishing report:  Surf will remain too high for safe and
productive razor clam digging.  With recent rainfall and more on the way,
crabbing is very poor in Yaquina Bay.

Southwest – Mild tides this weekend will change to minus tides next week
although the ebb will occur after dark.

Oregon fishing report for the Siuslaw and Lake Creek are fishing well when conditions allow. With no
significant rain, Lake Creek will be fishing well by the 1st, and the Siuslaw
sometime after.

Oregon fishing report for the Umpqua River has remained high and muddy over the past week although drift
boaters in the Roseburg area have caught steelhead over the weekend.

Surf perch fishing has been pretty good off southern Oregon beaches, but the
forecasts this week for high wind and waves will probably prevent safe ocean
casting.

While the Elk and Sixes have provided only fair fishing periodically, weekend
anglers managed to take a few chinook. The Elk River had great color and was
at 5.5 feet on New Years Eve.

Oregon fishing report for
The Chetco which has been dropping and clearing since December 30th, is
predicted to be on the rise again later this week. Steelhead have been moving
into the river in good numbers over the past week with anglers picking up 10
to 14 pounders when river and weather conditions have allowed. A 20-pound
native steelhead was taken on December 27th.

Oregon fishing report:
Eastern – Anglers found snow on the banks of the Deschutes over the weekend.
Fishing was fair for a mix of whitefish and redsides. Steelhead are in the
river, though they are getting colored.

Cold temperatures in the eastern part of the state are keeping steelheaders
inside. Flow ice and freezing rod guides will keep most from venturing out
until temperatures rise in late winter.

What’s In The Utah Fishing Report For Northern Utah?

January 17, 2008 on 4:25 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

utah fishing report

This portion of the Utah Fishing Report is about Bear Lake - this week, the Bear Lake surface temperature is about  32° F.  The Cisco Beach boat ramp is still accessible, but it is the only boat ramp usable at this time.  The recent wind activity has left the lake largely ice free.  If you plan to take a boat onto the lake, use caution, because ice chunks are floating around and are dangerous.

No Cisco are running yet.  Fishing for Cutthroat is good in 60 - 80 feet of water.  Use a tube jig tipped with cisco.  Anglers have the best success fishing at Second Point.

Utah Fishing Report - Joes Valley Offers The Best Splake

January 15, 2008 on 7:38 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Utah Fishing Report for Joes Valley.

Just in case you don’t already know it, Joes Valley stands among the top lakes for best splake fishing.

Joes Valley is just South of Price, Utah on Route 29 about 18 miles west of Orangeville.  Although fish tend to become sluggish in the winter, Joes Valley is a great place to catch big splake through the ice.

Splake typically forage on Utah chub, so when fishing for splake in Joes Valley, you will do well to use jigs that look like chubs or use jigs tiped with a chub tail or other minnow.  Standard baits also work well.

As a bonus, the stream directly below Joes Valley, known as Cottonwood Creek or Straight Canyon will give you the chance to catch browns, rainbows and cutthroat.

Utah Fishing Report

January 12, 2008 on 3:20 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

This Utah Fishing Report is for Weber River.

Fishing is excellent on the Weber River, Utah.  The river flow is variable below Echo.  For best success, use spinners and flies hares ear, pheasant tail, prince nymphs etc. Down from Stoddard, the water is mostly clear and you’ll have more success fishing for brown trout using spinners.

Brown trout fishing as well as mountain whitefish between Rockport and Echo Reservoir is red hot right now and this trend should continue until water flow increases.

Utah Fishing Report: Burbot Is An Unwanted Resident In Flaming Gorge Reservoir

January 12, 2008 on 12:11 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

This Utah fishing report is all about Burbot: they’re ugly and they’re not wanted in Flaming Gorge, but they’re feeling quite cozy in their new home.

Burbot, a fish angler’s generally consider as a “junkfish” is a freshwater fish related to cod and looks a lot like an eel, with a mouth full of very tenacious teeth.

It is commonly found in streams and lakes of North America above the 40°N latitude. And Burbot were recently illegally introduced into the Green River drainage in Wyoming, which is how they’ve recently made their way into the Gorge.

Although nearly every sport fisherman consider them “trash”, there was a day Burbot were in demand. In the 1920’s, a Minnesota druggist, Theodore H. Rowell and his father Joseph Rowell were using the Burbot to fee the foxes on Joe’s blue fox farm. The Burbot contained some mysterious element that improved the quality of the fox’s furs. Testing proved that Burbot oil is 4 times more potent in vitamin D and as much as 10 times more potent in vitamin A than cod liver oil. And Ted discovered that the oil is more rapidly digested and assimilated than most other fish oils. This led Ted to establishing the Burbot Liver Products Company, which later became Roswell Laboratories, Inc.

Despite all of that, anglers know Burbot compete with other game fish, feeding on insects and other invertebrates until they are old enough to feed on other fish. Because their diet is the same as sport fish, it’s unfortunate they are now in the Gorge. Most of the Burbot in Flaming Gorge are in the upper end of the lake. The Division of Wildlife Resources is requesting anglers to catch their bag limit of 25 and kill them if they don’t eat them.

Here’s how to catch them. Use spoons and jigs that have some type of glow on them. Don’t be afraid of their appearance if you catch one. Their teeth are sort of like catfish or bass teeth and they won’t bite. But they are slimy.

Surprisingly they are very tasty. Bread and fry them, or boil them lightly for 4 minutes then dip them in butter. You’ll find they taste a lot like lobster.

To clean Burbot, cut the skin behind the head and peel it off with pliers. Then fillet the meat off around the rib cage and down the tail, leaving you with nice boneless fillets.

Take advantage of a bad situation and try fishing for Burbot at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The fish taste very good and you’ll be helping the lake by fishing out these non native squatters.

It’s Steelhead Time!

Grand River at Grand Rapids - Boat and shore anglers are steelhead fishing. With water levels on the rise, look for the steelhead up near the dam while using choker bags with 7 to 15 eggs. A couple of brown trout were caught. Those fishing off the bridges will want to use spawn just off the bottom. Walleye are being caught on jigs with wax worms or minnows.

Muskegon - Pier anglers have a good chance to catch steelhead with the warm water coming downstream.

Muskegon Lake - Boat anglers are still going out. By day, they are catching pike and steelhead. Those fishing the west end of the lake are taking perch, but some sorting will be necessary. At night, anglers are catching pike and walleye.

White River - Look for steelhead up near Hesperia.
